Our Background
Clearwater Firewood started up in 2009 after we saw the need for a trustworthy, reliable firewood supplier in the Geraldine area.
We started out hand throwing firewood into trailers and delivering it around town (after a season of that we quickly realised we needed to find a better way!) We now run a processing machine and screen (to ring, split and screen the wood) and we still use our original big red tipper trailer (which is looking a little less red and shiny than it originally did) to deliver our firewood.
With a little kiwi ingenuity Ronald converted the firewood processor to be mobile which enables him to do contract processing all around Canterbury and occasionally further afield.
His is the face you’re most likely to meet when your wood is delivered or we contract process your logs, while Anna and the girls generally man the office and phone.
At Clearwater Firewood we’re all about Good Wood
We’re passionate about good quality firewood and we love our fire! We heat our entire house with it, dry our washing above it, heat our water with it, often cook on it and of course we love to sit around it.
It’s this passion that has seen us join Environment Canterbury’s Good Wood Scheme. Clearwater Firewood is an ECan Good Wood Supplier so you can trust that we will always be honest about our wood – we won’t tell you it’s dry if it’s not!
All our wood is open-air dried (not kiln-dried). It sits out in the South Canterbury frosts, nor’west and summer sun. This allows the wood to season properly – to levels below 25% moisture content. This ensures great heat output and a cleaner burning fuel.
This does, however, mean that it can be challenging for us to supply you with dry wood in the middle of a wet winter. For this reason we strongly recommend you order your wood early and have it stacked away in a suitable shed well before Easter (January or February is ideal). This way you can be sure you’ll have dry wood when winter hits.
